I found the cutest dog friendly Airbnb in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina, south of Asheville. It was a brand new cabin, custom built and is surrounded by 38 acres of forest. My boyfriend and I wanted to get away for the weekend and bring our dogs. This was the perfect place to stay! Complete privacy! Little did I know, I would be getting engaged here ;-)
I did some research ahead of time and found a farm nearby called Hickory Nut Gap. They have a farm store, butchery, a deli and a bakery. We went and had the most delicious farm to table lunch and picked up some eggs, fresh butter, bacon, bone broth, steaks and the most AMAZING pecan bars. They had fridges and freezers filled with all kinds of grass fed/pasture raised meats! As a Primal Health coach, this kind of stuff makes me so happy. The quality does not get any better!
Driving in North Carolina is so beautiful. It’s a lot different than Florida. We ended up finding another farm near by called Flying cloud farm. Here they have a self service road stand where you can pick your own flowers and in season vegetables. They use an honor system which is so unique!
We love hiking and going on adventures with our dogs, so we checked out Pisgah National Forest, which is filled with all kinds of trails and even waterfalls. I never knew North Carolina had SO many waterfalls! Our first stop was Crabtree Falls. A 70ft waterfall located directly off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Here is a little tip: you can download the app Alltrails to find local trails in your area. You can filter by length, rating and difficulty level.
Next stop was Tom’s Creek Falls. This is a 80ft multi cascade waterfall with an easy 1 mile round trip hike. Our dogs were able to swim and cool off here.
The views are so incredible driving a long the Blue Ridge Parkway. The parkway runs 469 miles from Virginia all the way to Cherokee, North Carolina. There are overlooks and amazing vistas the whole way. So many different shades of blue and green.
Little did I know Mike was planning to propose to me here. We had planned to go for a drive to find a look out spot and watch the sunset, but were unsuccessful, so we just went back to the cabin. We were hanging out on the balcony area and I was talking about how I wanted a picture of myself holding my new coffee cup that says “stay wild”. Mike chimed in and said “I know something that will make the photo look better”. Or something along those lines. It all happened so fast. Before I knew it he was down on one knee, teary eyed and popped the question. I honestly had no idea and was completely caught off guard! Mike is always predictable, but he was able to keep this a secret. I couldn’t take my eyes off the ring, it didn’t stop sparkling! But we had just called an Uber 10 minutes prior, so I had to gather my things and head out the door! We ended up heading to a rooftop bar in downtown Asheville to catch the sunset. It was perfect!
What a perfect getaway! I wish North Carolina was closer to Florida. We would go all the time! If you’re ever looking to stay in NC, check out this Airbnb. Its so cute and close to good food and lots of adventures!
Until next time, STAY W I L D!
